The Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom (MBA) is a learned society with a scientific laboratory that undertakes research in marine biology. The organisation was founded in 1884 and has been based in Plymouth since the Citadel Hill Laboratory was opened on 30th June 1888. The MBA is also home to the National Marine Biological Library, whose collections cover the marine biological sciences, and curates the historical collections

The University Museum of Zoology is a museum of the University of Cambridge and part of the research community of the Department of Zoology. The museum houses an extensive collection of scientifically important zoological material. Much of the museum's material derives from the great collecting expeditions of the 19th century, which provided the first documentation of the fauna in many parts of the world. The earliest exhibits come from the Harwood anatomical collection which was purchase in 1814. The museum added further collections including birds from Swainson and animals from the Cambridge Philosophical Society, to which Charles Darwin had contributed

The Queensland Acclimatisation Society (QAS) was an acclimatisation society based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia which operated from 1862 to 1956. Its primary interest was in the introduction of exotic plants, particularly tropical and sub-tropical, to Queensland, both for economic and ornamental purposes. From its inception in 1862 at the instigation of the Governor of Queensland, Sir George Bowen, the QAS focussed on contributing to the development of Queensland's fledgling agricultural industry. It imported plants that had commercial potential and conducted experiments to determine if they could be adapted to Queensland's tropical and sub-tropical climate. Plants researched included sugar cane, bananas, cotton, apples, pineapples, pasture grasses, maize, olives, mangoes, pecan nuts and macadamia nuts. Many of these became important agricultural crops in Queensland

The Royal Entomological Society if devoted to the study of insects. Its aims are to disseminate information about insects and improving communication between entomologists. The society was founded in 1833 as the Entomological Society of London. It had many antecedents beginning as the Society of Entomologists of London. The foundation of the society began with a meeting 'of gentleman and friends of entomological science', held on 3 May 1833 in the British Museum convened by Nicholas Aylward Vigors with the presidency of John George Children. Those present were the Reverend Frederick William Hope, Cardale Babington, William Yarrell, John Edward Gray, James Francis Stephens, Thomas Horsfield, George Thomas Rudd and George Robert Gray

The Zoological Society of Ireland is the body responsible for running Dublin Zoo, where it is based, and Fota Wildlife Park in County Cork. it is the successor to the Royal Zoological Society of Ireland, a learned society of the study of zoology. The original ZSI was founded in Dublin on 10th May 1830 at a meeting in the Rotunda Hospital called and chaired by the Duke of Leinster 'to form a collection of living animals on the plan to the Zoological Society of London'. Dublin Zoo opened in September 1831 in the Phoenix Park. The Society's first general meeting was held in November 1832. In 1838, the Zoo held an open day to mark the coronation of Queen Victoria and the Society of rewarded with the prefix 'Royal' in its name

In 1913, Edinburgh Town Council bought a large plot of land on Corstophine Hill for the Society - this later opened to the public as Edinburgh Zoo. The Society received its Royal Charter in 1913. In 1986, the society acquired the Highland Wildlife Park
