I regret exceedingly that I was unable to be at the Museum to-day as I did not arrive at the office till past two. I was dissecting some fish and it was then too late for the chance of going to the Museum. Will you kindly fix your own day for next week and Mr Lee and myself will be in attendance. We will then send full particulars as to the place where the furs will be on view.
I trust your Royal Highness will forgive me for not meeting you to-day

I must apologise for not having written to you before. I published a chapter on 'Gapes in Pheasants' in 'Land & Water' but we can not find it. I enclose you Mr. Bartlett's note to me on the subject which I think contains the information you require.
I have got Bartlett to write me an article on Water Fowl especially for Your Royal Highness's benefit. It is published in 'Land & Water' to-day and I trust will be of service to you. I have ordered the numbers of 'Land & Water' about the Hudson Bay furs to be sent to you

Mr Bartlett called on me by accident this morning. I told him that you were looking out for ducks for Frogmore. He told me that since your visit to the Gardens he had been looking out for ducks for you and he gave me the enclosed paper from which it appears that he now has a chance of getting for you 36 Birds for 10£. This I consider to be wonderfully cheap.
I write immediately to your Royal Highness to tell you about it. Mr Bartlett would like to have an early answer as to whether you would like the birds or not. Thanking you for all your kindness last Wednesday

I have written at once to Mr Bartlett who will send you an answer about the ducks I hope he will be able to get you what you wish.
I fancy your story about drakes that have been hatched by chickens pairing with chickens only is a 'myth'. I have written to Menzies to send up the fisherman for the great lake Trout for your lake at Frogmore and have also given instructions about the Perch, Roach and Dace [spawn?]

I am much obliged for your letter just received. Dr [Vougar/Zougar?] arrived from Switzerland Friday night with 100,000 eggs of great Lake Trout and was very busy all day Saturday sending them away to different people I should be most obliged if you would kindly always write me

I am going tomorrow with the Captain of an Arctic Whaling Ship to the Board of trade see if we can not get a treaty made between Norway, Denmark and England to prevent the fearful destruction of young Seals in March

I am exceedingly obliged to you for your very kind letter I have had the 'Seal' correspondence reprinted as I am about to send a copy to the Captains of all the Scotch ships so that the matter can be discussed by them on the spot. I am very grateful to you for your offer to bring the matter before H.R.H. the Crown Prince of Prussia I am sure this would do an immense deal of good. It is really very kind of you. There is to be a fine picture of the Massacre of the Innocents in the 'Animal World'. I will not fail to send you copies. No Gazelles yet I am keeping a sharp lookout

I am exceedingly obliged to you for taking such interest in the poor Seals I sent you Copies of all the papers. It will be very good indeed of you if you will put them before the Crown Prince - The 'French Society for the Protection of Animals from Cruelty' have awarded me a medal (not yet received) for my Seal paper. I am most obliged for your kind offer about the Museum I will write you a separate letter about this. I open the Aquarium at Manchester next Thursday and give evidence about Eels at Gloucester on Saturday
