Charles Kingsley was a broad church priest of the Church of England, a university professor, social reformer, historian, novelist and poet. He is particularly associated with Christian socialism, the working men's college, and forming labour cooperatives, which failed, but encouraged later working reforms. Kingsley received letters from Thomas Huxley in 1860, and sent letters in 1963 discussing Huxley's early ideas on agnosticism
Richard Kippist was an English botanist and librarian. He worked as a clerk in the office of Joseph Woods, architect, with whom he shared an interest in botany. He was employed by the Linnean Society from 1830, holding the position of librarian from 1842 to 1881. His special interest was Australian flora, and he advised George Bentham, Ferdinand von Mueller and others on the subject
