He joined the Zoological Society's Accounts Department in 1903. He served in the Army from 1917 to 1919 and after he was demobilised he was appointed Accountant at the Society. He later became the Society's Assistant Treasurer. He made a vast collection of photographs which were presented to the Society on his death

George Cox Bompas was a British solicitor and astronomer. Bompas was born in Bloomsbury. He was the second son of Serjeant Charles Carpenter Bompas. His brother was William Bompas.
He married May Ann Scott Buckland, daughter of Reverend William Buckland, in 1860. They had four children. Bompas took interest in astronomy and studies periodic meteor shower and the Zodiacal light. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Geological Society and the Paleontological Society.
