Hartlaub, Carl Johann Gustav

Karel Johan Gustav Hartlaud was a German Physician and Ornithologist. Hartlaub was born in Bremen, and studied at Bonn and Berlin before graduating in medicine at Göttingen. In 1840, he began to study and collect exotic birds, which he donated to the Bremen Natural History Museum. He described some of these species for the first time. In 1852, he set up a new journal with Jean Cabanis, the Journal für Ornithologie. He wrote with Otto Finsch, Beitrag zur Fauna Centralpolynesiens: Ornithologie der Viti-, Samoa und Tonga- Inseln. Halle, H. Schmidt. This 1867 work which has handcoloured lithographs was based on bird specimens collected by Eduard Heinrich Graeffe for Museum Godeffroy. A number of birds were named for him, including Hartlaub's Bustard, Hartlaub's Turaco, Hartlaub's Duck, and Hartlaub's Gull

Harvey, Paul H

Paul H Harvey is a British evolutionary biologist. He is Professor of Zoology and was Head of the Zoology Department at the University of Oxford from 1998 to 2011 and Secretary of the Zoological Society of London from 2000-2011, holding these posts in conjunction with a professional fellowship at Jesus College, Oxford.

He was educated at the University of York, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1992. He was awarded the Scientific Medal and the Frink Award from the Zoological Society of London, the J. Murray Luck Award from the National Academy of Sciences, and the University of Helsinki Medal. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2008.
